We are seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, and commercially minded Country Manager to lead our affiliate in Hungary and drive long-term business growth, organizational excellence, and sustainable value creation.

As the senior Medison leader in the market, the Country Manager serves as the face of the company externally and the integrator of all affiliate activities internally. The role carries full accountability for business performance, patient impact, financial outcomes, organizational capability, strategic partnerships, compliance, and reputation.

Beyond delivering short-term results, the successful candidate will demonstrate enterprise leadership by balancing local market opportunities with broader regional and global priorities, developing strategic partnerships, building a high-performing organization, and creating the conditions for sustainable long-term growth. The role requires strong commercial judgment, executive presence, business gravitas, financial discipline, and the ability to lead through ambiguity in a dynamic and evolving healthcare environment.

The position reports to the Cluster Head and is based in Hungary. Domestic and international travel should be expected.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Leadership, Strategy & Growth

  • Define and execute the affiliate strategy in alignment with Medison's global and regional objectives while adapting to local market realities and opportunities.
  • Drive long-term sustainable growth by identifying market opportunities, anticipating risks, and making strategic investment decisions that maximize enterprise value.
  • Act as the architect of the affiliate's growth agenda, ensuring a balance between short-term performance delivery and long-term capability building.
  • Build robust business cases for portfolio expansion, launches, partnerships, and strategic investments as needed based on global and BD requirements.
  • Lead scenario planning and strategic forecasting, proactively identifying future market developments and competitive threats.
  • Foster enterprise thinking across the leadership team, ensuring decisions are made in the best interests of patients, employees, partners, and Medison as a whole.

Financial Accountability & Business Performance

  • Maintain full ownership and accountability for affiliate P&L performance and delivery of financial commitments.
  • Ensure disciplined allocation of financial and human resources based on strategic priorities, ROI, and long-term value creation.
  • Lead annual strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation processes.
  • Drive transparency, rigor, and accountability in financial forecasting, ensuring assumptions are validated, pressure-tested, and supported by robust market intelligence.
  • Establish a culture where leaders understand not only performance outcomes but also the underlying business drivers and investment implications.
  • Continuously optimize organizational resources, investments, and operating expenses to maximize business performance.

Cross functional Excellence, Market Access & Portfolio Operational Execution

  • Lead execution of commercial, medical, and market access strategies to maximize patient access and business outcomes at local level.
  • Align Commercial, Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, Market Development, Compliance, Finance, HR, Pharmacovigilance, and Supply Chain organizations around common priorities.
  • Drive portfolio prioritization and lifecycle management decisions based on market insights, patient needs, competitive intelligence, and financial considerations at local level.
  • Oversee Business Units’ customer engagement strategies and ensure strong execution across all channels and stakeholder groups.
  • Ensure operational excellence across all affiliate activities and maintain high standards of execution.
  • Ensure successful launch readiness and launch execution for new products and indications at local level.
  • Monitor healthcare policy developments, market changes, and reimbursement dynamics and translate insights into actionable business strategies.
  • Drive cross-functional decision making, removing organizational barriers and accelerating business outcomes.
  • Ensure appropriate governance, forecasting accuracy, supply continuity, and execution discipline across all business processes.

Partnership Management & External Leadership

  • Act as Medison's primary representative and ambassador within the country.
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with key stakeholders including healthcare professionals, payers, regulators, government authorities, patient organizations, distributors, and strategic partners.
  • Effectively communicate Medison's vision, value proposition, and strategic priorities to external stakeholders and partner organizations as relevant.
  • Collaborate closely with global commercial teams and global leadership teams to ensure alignment between local execution and partnership expectations.
  • Serve as a credible and influential healthcare leader capable of representing Medison with confidence, consistency, and one coordinated company voice.

Organizational Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing affiliate organization with a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and patient centricity.
  • Develop future leaders and ensure robust succession planning across critical functions.
  • Create an inclusive and engaging environment that attracts, develops, and retains top talent.
  • Lead organizational transformation and capability-building initiatives required to support future business ambitions.
  • Coach and develop the leadership team to strengthen business acumen, enterprise thinking, and leadership effectiveness.

  • Foster a culture of ethics, integrity, compliance, and business accountability throughout the affiliate.
  • Serve as the ultimate accountable leader for ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, industry codes, and company policies.
  • Ensure risks are proactively identified, assessed, mitigated, and escalated where appropriate.
  • Maintain inspection readiness and ensure effective management of business, regulatory, legal, compliance, and reputational risks.

Other requirements

  • University degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Business, Economics, or related field.
  • Experience in Country Manager role in Hungary
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Demonstrated success in senior commercial, market access, or general management leadership roles.
  • Proven affiliate or business leadership experience with direct P&L accountability.
  • Proven track record of product launches, reimbursement negotiations, strategic partnerships, and organizational leadership.
  • Strong understanding of local healthcare systems, market access environments, and pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Experience leading cross-functional organizations in complex matrix environments.
  • Fluency in English and local language(s) where applicable.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
