Reporting directly to the Medical Director EPM and dotted line into the General Manager, Cluster Medical Head is the most senior medical representative in the cluster operation with strategic and operational accountability for the function. In this regionally based position, the Cluster Medical Head is an impactful member of the cross functional Cluster leadership team. It is preferred that the job holder will be located, depending for which of the clusters he/she is responsible for, in one of our European hub offices. This is a hybrid role as the Cluster Medical Head job holder will be responsible as well for managing all medical activities for the products in their respective country in which he/she will be located.

Fitness to and willingness to travel across assigned cluster and occasionally internationally. Travel can range up to 60% during peak times.

 

Responsibilities

The CMH works in close partnership with the General Manager/Cluster Heads and Affiliate General Managers. She/he will closely collaborate with Medison’s partners and provide support to the local affiliates in the specific cluster region within EPM.

(S)he is responsible for oversight on all aspects of Medical Affairs (MA) in the cluster affiliates and will be managing all medical activities for the products under their responsibility in their respective cluster.

The CMH will be the primary contact for the cluster Medical organization (Field- and Office-based Medical teams), and will lead the Affiliate Medical Heads (MHs), Medical Affairs Managers (MAMs) and Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs)

The CMH is an expert on the Medison products in their respective cluster, disease states, and areas of research and drives strategic partnerships with Healthcare professionals (HCPs) at peer-to-peer level, developing their knowledge and providing solutions to support appropriate use of medicines for better patient outcomes. (S)he engages with their network of key scientific leaders in their cluster.

The CMH job holder is shaping the development of the cluster strategy and go-to-market approaches for the field medical organization via therapeutic area clinical knowledge and insight from HCP interactions. The CMH translates strategic imperatives into actionable medical field initiatives and ensures it’s compliant execution in close collaboration with Medical Director EPM, marketing function and other internal stakeholders.

Overall, the CMH determines in full alignment with the Medical Director EPM the vision, strategy, goals, tactics and initiatives for the office- and field-based medical team in the specific disease areas within the cluster and ensures timely execution.

Requirements

  • Doctorate MD/PhD in one of the following: Doctor Life Sciences, Medical Doctor, Dentistry, Veterinarian, or Pharmacist
  • 10-15 years’ experience in pharma in medical or commercial role, ideally in a startup environment.
  • Proven people management and leadership experience is a must. At least 8+ years’ experience in a country / region Medical Affairs leadership position.
  • Fluent written and verbal language skills in English is a must, and at least one local cluster language.
  • Proven in-depth scientific knowledge of the relevant therapeutic areas and related disease states; displays a natural curiosity to learn and build scientific expertise.
  • Significant experience working in an international, matrix environment enables to effectively interact with and influence colleagues across functions and geographies.
  • Candidates must have experience working in innovative companies and on innovative drugs
  • Previous engagement in rare disease franchises is an asset.
  • Result-oriented problem solver, with attention to details and strong prioritization and decision- making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills paired with strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of the cross-functional interface between Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Regulatory, Clinical Development, Medical and Public Affairs.
  • Excellent leadership capabilities with high emotional intelligence. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and coach scientific/medical colleagues at all skill and knowledge levels.
  • Strong business acumen and impeccable integrity, strong management skills, decisive, resourceful
  • Scientific outlook and ability to uncover new therapeutic opportunities.
  • Ability to interact with and senior leaders in both medical and commercial functions to convey the field medical vision and implementation strategies.
